Affiliate marketing has been around for as long as I can remember. Think word of mouth but digitally. You are sharing a personal link from a business or service you’ve received. From there you can receive a small percentage or set amount from that referral. There are countless times when we share the things we love with family, friends, and strangers online for free. Why not make a small income from doing so? I came across affiliate marketing back in 2016 when I started my blog. I came across the book Click Millionaires by at my local library and I was intrigued. But took little action and got little results. It wasn’t until I made up my mind that I want to be a full-time creative and take MORE ACTION with affiliate marketing.
As a creative, we share things online all the time. It can also be a bit cringy to some to share a link from which you’ll get paid. But if this is an avenue that will get you to where you want to be in life, you’ll get over what’s scary or cringy and share that link real quick. In today’s blog, I am will be sharing how to start your affiliate marketing journey as a creative. I was inspired to do this blog post because 1. I’ve been actually doing affiliate marketing off and on since starting my content creator journey. 2. I wanted to share some major benefits of this topic with future digital content creators to come.
So let’s get into this blog post!
How to start your Affiliate Marketing journey as a Creative.

Why Affiliate marketing?
Besides being easy to do, for creatives, it can produce another stream of income. We can really rely on brand deals and sponsorships for income. If that were the case, we should just go back to a 9-5. That’s the great thing about being creative because we can take what we love to do and expand it into so many streams of income. It’s so easy to share a link if someone asked you- “where did you get that?”. Now it’s even easier because of platforms like ShopStyle and LTK. Another great thing about this type of marketing, all you need is a computer or a smartphone.
How do I choose an Affiliate program or platform?
Choosing a platform really comes down to your niche. There are so many affiliate companies out there I can hardly keep track of. But just keep in mind when choosing a program, that it’s something that will be organic and that your audience can benefit from. For example, I sent out newsletters to my insiders using Flodesk. There is a 30-day free trial and members can choose to receive a discounted rate of $20 per month instead of the $38. The same thing with the Walmart Plus program. I wrote a blog post last week about it, I was able to promote an affiliate link given to me. Future members can receive a 30-day free trial.
The benefit: Anyone that clicks these links, and signs up will receive full benefits for 30 days. I will receive a commission if they choose to move forward.
Lastly, when choosing a program, there are low-rate commissions and high-rate commissions. A low-rate commission example would be Amazon affiliates. A high commission rate example would be Legendary Marketing or Clickbank. Be sure to do your research on each platform you decide to go with.
How to incroptate your affilate links?
I showed a few examples above, of how to use my affiliate links. A blog post, an Instagram story, Pinterest, and Youtube just to name a few. It takes a few hours out of the day and being consistent just works too!
In conclusion, I hope you were able to receive some great insight from this blog post when it comes to affiliate marketing. Comment and share below.
