Ever wondered how do bloggers partner with brands? Or how do bloggers make money online? I have been blogging off and on since 2014, there are a few takeaways that I’ve held onto- especially when it comes to making money online.
While there are multiple ways that bloggers make their income online, the art of the pitch is where it starts. I consider the pitch a cover letter, but for your blogging business. I have been able to work with my local grocery store, Carefree Panty liners, and many more. Over the years, I’ve edited and taken some advice from my PR friends and other bloggers on how to pitch to brands. I finally got past rejection and over fear. I am not confident with pitching to brands and asking for pay.
Below are a few consistent key takeaways on how to pitch a partnership.
Research:
Create a list of 50-100 brands you want to work with. Yes, I said 50-100 because you just reaching out to just 5 brands, you’re going give up. Some will email you back, some will not, some will say yes, some will say no. It totally depends on timing! When looking into the research, you are looking for the ” contact us” email. Most company websites have their Media/PR contact information available on the web page. However, contact us is the right way to go. Or just get into them DMs on Instagram.
What can you do for them?
When you are pitching, you should present the pitch like you are pitching yourself for a job. Which in this case you are. As I mentioned above, this is your cover letter.
WHO: Are you?
What: Do you like about our brand/company? What can you do for our brand? What are your ideas?
Why: Why are you contacting us? Why would we work with you?
How: Do you plan to get additional exposure for us?
Have a media-kit.
A media-kit is a short overview of who you are and what you do, etc. Be sure to always link it within your email. Upload it as an attachment.
Just do it and send it the email.
Most people don’t know where to start, others are just scared to do so. Take the step to reach out and send the email. The best time to send these emails are mid-week Tuesday- Thursday during working hours. Why wait for brands to reach out to you?
Join a Blogging Platforms.
These are just a few blogger networks that get bloggers paid to work with brands. Some networks also might have you pitch them to see why you would be a good fit for their campaign. Other networks might have you fill out a survey. Google “Blogger networks” and a few should show up in your search engine. ShopStyle Collective, ACTIVATE, Influenster and more are just a few platforms that offer bloggers some $$$.
