This Monday was the Oscars of Fashion, the annual Met Ball Gala in New York City. This is the one major event where designers and celebrities collaborate and come together. Now at $25,000 a ticket, you too can have your picture taken with the worlds most famous celebrities. But let’s get to the main thing of the Met Gala…the fashion.
This year’s theme for the Met Gala: China through the looking glass. And there were people looking through three top celebrities dresses that night. So even though, I believe that these divas didn’t capture the theme of the event in their attire, they did get one part right.
Battle of the Sheer
If you have the body for it go for it! Kim Kardashian West (Peter Dundas for Roberto Cavalli), Jennifer Lopez (Versace), and Beyonce’ (Custom made Givenchy Hatue Couture). Now I am going to be honest because I always am (hell this is my blog)so personally, Kim shut it down for me in this particular category. Now Kim got heat because everyone was stating that she “copied” Beyonce’s 2012 Met Gala dress. Mrs. West stated that dress was inspired by Cher, and the legend backed her up giving her props and confirming “That looks like the dress I wore to the first Met Gala in 1974”.
Who went with the theme…and worked it!
Now there are some stars that played it safe and its either them or they didn’t trust their stylist to be creative enough (no shade). Most celebrities got the theme and went along with it. Sarah Jessica Parker not only asked Anna Wintour months in advance, but collaborated with H&M on her dress back in December. The flame hat was designed by Phillip Tracy, which added a great touch to her dress and the over all.
Lady Gaga’s custom made Kiomo by Balenciaga had me gagging yes I love it.
Hands down Rihanna shut it down in her custom made robe by a Chinese designer Guo Pei with Christian Louboutin heels and jewelry from Cartier. It really represented royalty for me and it was just bad ass!
